Fishing System Update!

Hi again, everyone! Following up on my last post about fishing around Lunamere, the system's changed, so here's the rundown.

The BRDMRT system turned out to be pretty limited behind the scenes. It needed specific prim-marked spots, a server rezzed on every parcel that wanted to be fishing-friendly, and you basically had to be standing right on top of the water prims for it to notice you. So we've switched over to a new system: Northern Operations.

The best part is that Northern Operations works anywhere on the grid, not just Lunamere. There's no server to rez anywhere, it all runs through the rod and HUD themselves. All you need is Linden water within about 8m of you. Wear the HUD and a pole, click through the one-time Terms of Service notice, and you're fishing. It's a single L$500 game pack and that's it, no bait, no other purchases needed after that.

I've swapped the old vendors at our existing spots for Northern Operations vendors, which carry both the full system and a free trial if you want to test it out first. One trade-off: Northern Operations doesn't support custom prizes, so unfortunately our hopes for being able to add stuff later won't be possible. On the fun side, there are a bunch of fishing tools to pick from in the kit including left- and right-handed versions:

  • Fishing Rod - the classic spinning reel setup

  • Deep Sea Fishing Rod - a bigger open-faced reel, plus a smaller "Dinkie" version

  • Harpoon - scuba/skin diving style

  • Bow Fishing - bow and arrow rigged with line

  • Fish Trap - kneeling animation, good for shallow water

  • Fishing Spear - also shallow-water focused

  • Trident - three-pronged, perfect for mers

  • Fishing Stick - simple stick-and-string, great for ancient-themed sims

  • Mage's Fishing Wand - a particle-based spellcasting version

  • Fishing Rod Blank - no animations or sounds, so you can layer it over a favorite rod you already own

You'll also get a few HUD style options to choose from, including sizes and versions with visual prompts, a ding sound, or floating text, so you can pick whatever feels right while you fish.
